HIGHLIGHTS
Stem cell therapy is one of the most exciting and rapidly advancing fields in modern medicine. This technology now offers cures only dreamed of in the past. It holds the potential to revolutionize the way we treat a wide range of diseases and injuries. But what exactly is stem cell therapy, and why is it so important? Let’s break it down in simple terms.
What Are Stem Cells?
Mesenchymal Stem cells (MSCs) are unique undifferentiated cells that have the ability to develop into many different cell types. They can divide and renew themselves over long periods, and they can transform into specialized cells such as muscle cells, blood cells, or brain cells. This remarkable ability makes them incredibly valuable for medical treatments. One of the most significant benefits of stem cell therapy is its ability to regenerate damaged tissues and organs. Introduce them to a damaged shoulder, for example, and over time they will renew that shoulder.
Care Nashville’s Wolverine treatment uses bioethically-derived MSC stem cells from the umbilical cord and placenta—also known as “afterbirth”. Traditionally these cells have been discarded. Scientists have found that the cells harvested from the area where the umbilical cord joins to the placenta are rich with “new life”.
The cells were never dispatched to the baby for use before birth. They are simply extra and unused, until now. Therefore, harvesting them and harnessing their miraculous “new creation” ability is revolutionary for medicine. Injected into injured areas, they then identify the injury and develop into that type of cell, whether it be knee, shoulder, nerve or lung. Their goal is to replace the injured cells with themselves, new creation, new life, new tissue.
We have used these rich stem cells to regenerate cartilage, tissue and nerves of the knees, shoulders, and spine, often preventing the need for surgical interventions, such as knee or shoulder replacement and back surgery.
Bill M, a 68-year-old retired truck driver presented to Care Nashville with the news that he needed bilateral knee replacement. His pain level was 10 out of 10 and he could hardly walk. Bill did not wish to have surgery and had researched stem cell therapy. He was familiar with the stem cell clinics in Panama and Mexico and found Care Nashville to be able to offer the same treatments right here in this country and in this city.
We injected millions of MSCs into each of Bob’s knees. The procedure for both knees lasted 15 minutes from the prepping of the knees to the injection. Bob was instructed that the cells would begin to work immediately and continue to work repairing the damaged cells over a 3-6 month period.
Within 48 hours Bob notified us that his pain level was a 2 of 10 and he was not taking any pain meds at all. This was the first time in many years that Bob was able to walk without pain medication. Within 3 months Bill’s knees were completely without pain and today surgical intervention is no longer necessary.
This story is one of many that demonstrate the regenerative power of bio-ethically derived MSC’s, cells of new life and therefore, new creation.
The Wolverine treatment is also used to repair injured tissue as it goes through the bloodstream looking for injury and inflammation. The first pass of the infusion is through the lungs. Many Americans have COPD, long haul Covid symptoms, and other maladies related to their lungs.
To regenerate the tissue of the lungs is powerful and life changing. Jim, a 67-year-old business owner presented to Care Nashville with long haul Covid symptoms in his lungs. We administered the Wolverine IV infusion for over 60 minutes. Jim was instructed that the cells could be regenerative to his lung tissue for 3-6 months, and that he may need one more treatment in 6 months.
It has been 4 months since the infusion and Jim has noticed a decrease in his shortness of breath and an increase in his baseline energy level. We are optimistic that this healing process will continue, and we are prepared to give him another Wolverine infusion in 6 months to continue the healing process if needed.
