How Does Semaglutide Work for Weight Loss?

Many factors make losing weight difficult. Semaglutide is a  prescription medication that triggers the production of a natural hormone that manages appetite, insulin production, and blood sugar levels. As a result, you eat less and burn fuel more efficiently, helping you lose weight safely and effectively.

What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a prescription treatment for weight loss. The FDA has approved it as an effective method for helping people decrease their weight. It works best when used as part of a comprehensive weight loss program managed by experts.

Semaglutide signals the production of a hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1). It is also approved as a prescription for people with type 2 diabetes to help them regulate their blood sugar. GLP-1 is a naturally produced hormone that plays a normal role in your metabolism, making it a safe weight loss tool with very few side effects.

How Does Semaglutide Work for Weight Loss?

Semiglutide is administered as an injection. It boosts the production of GLP-1, a hormone that plays a powerful role in metabolism. It triggers the release of insulin, which removes sugar from the blood and transports it into the cells.

GLP-1 keeps blood sugar stable, limiting spikes and dips that can make you hungry. It also affects hunger signals to and from the brain, making the stomach feel full longer. You will notice that you have less appetite and fewer sudden urges to eat.

How Do We Use Semaglutide for Weight Loss?

We use semaglutide as part of a weight loss program that also includes lifestyle changes and education. Our support helps you maintain consistency, and you will receive weekly support and guidance to keep you successful and on track. Our weight loss plan includes:

  • Keeping a food journal to promote awareness of eating habits
  • Lab tests, including hormone levels and A1C
  • 150 minutes of exercise per week with strength training included
  • 8 hours of sleep per night
  • Weekly injections of semaglutide and L-carnitine

When combined with semaglutide, L-carnitine helps turn fat into energy. It makes burning fat easier, especially when combined with exercise. Every step of this program has been proven to increase weight loss and support an overall healthy lifestyle. For example, many people underestimate the importance of sleep, a key factor proven to affect hormone levels and weight gain.

Are There Any Side Effects From Semaglutide?

Semaglutide injections start at 10 units. After a week, they increase to 20 units, then the regular 30 units. Some people experience side effects, most commonly nausea and other digestive symptoms. Uncommon side effects include dizziness, headaches, and low blood pressure. People usually do not find side effects bothersome enough to stop treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Semaglutide?

Good candidates for semaglutide understand that it works best as part of a weight loss program. People who commit to the program see significant weight loss and feel healthier.

You might not be a good candidate if you have type 1 diabetes, thyroid cancer, or other medical conditions. A few people may not respond well to semaglutide and need to stop using it. Lab tests will determine whether you have any medical issues that might prevent you from using semaglutide.

Amazing, friendly, knowledgeable staff! Dr Senekal was very professional and had an amazing bedside manner. I would recommend him to anyone looking at getting cataract/laser surgery. I came from Grande Prairie just to see him and his staff!
